U.S Women’s Volleyball Squad is ready to rumble in Tokyo, Japan
The American musketeers are all up for the big challenge at FIVB Women’s World Championship 2010. The United States’ Team is currently enjoying a top form and it has high hopes to capture the first-ever gold medal in World Championship. The team had an amazing
run in the FIVB Grand Prix Championship earlier this year and captured the top-spot. The victory set a clear direction for the team and now they have their eyes on the title trophy of FIVB Women’s World Championship, which will hit the town on October 29 and
action will continue up till November 14, 2010.
Japan is the privileged host of this campaign and it will greet 24 teams from around the world. There is not much time left and most of the teams have already arrived in Japan. The United States’ team, headed by the coach, Hugh McCutcheon left for Japan
last Thursday on 21st October, 2010. The team started training in the Japanese city Shiga. American team is scheduled to play a warm-up match today (Tuesday). Japan’s V-League champion team will collide with the American squad. Afterwards, the U.S.
team will travel to Matsumoto where they will start the official game.
USA is grouped in Pool C along with teams from Cuba, Germany, Thailand, Croatia and Kazakhstan. The U.S. team will open the championship by taking on Thailand on 29th October, 2010. The second round of the tournament will bring strong teams from
Pool B (Italy, Brazil, Kenya, Netherlands, Czech Republic and Puerto Rico) and Pool F will be formed after elimination of 2 teams from each Pool. Japan’s city Nagoya will facilitate the Pool F teams. The successful teams of second round will play in the third
round, which will feature the “final four” matches and classification round for different positions. The semi-finals and gold-medal match of the FIVB Women’s World Championship will be played on November 13-14 in Tokyo, Japan.
The 2010 season has brought a lot of luck for the American team. They finished at the podium for three times and held an overall record of 21-9 in 2010. They captured bronze-ware at the 9th Pan American Cup, which was held in May. Likewise, the Americans
finished in the second spot at the 26th edition of Montreux Volley Masters in June. Then the big victory came of USA as they pushed everyone behind and occupied the top-spot in the 2010 FIVB Grand Prix. USA won the gold medal at FIVB Grand Prix
in August 2010.
The U.S. team finished the final round of the FIVB Grand Prix with 5-0 record. The teams from Japan, Poland, China and Brazil learned a lesson from USA at Ningbo, China. Overall, USA won 11 matches in FIVB Grand Prix Championship. In the past, the team also
finished in third place in 2003 and 2004.
The head coach of American team, Hugh McCutcheon has faith in his players and expressed hope for better status in World Championship. He calls the Grand Prix victory as a stepping stone for American team and they are determined to make it again. The coach
has urged the team to work ever harder and catch the limelight once again.
The U.S. team is equipped with best blocker like Foluke Akinradewo and a superb setter in the form of Alisha Glass. The rest of the team is full of energy and has the potential to dismiss any team in the world. The American team will surely create a buzz
in the game. The fans are desperately waiting to witness the amazing battles of FIVB World Championship.
