U.S. and Puerto Rico to play in Pan American Cup women’s volleyball fixture
The U.S women’s volleyball team is scheduled to compete against Puerto Rico tonight, July 2, in a Pan American Cup match that is currently underway in Mexico at the Universidad Autonoma de Cuidad Juarez.
The U.S. women’s team played its firsy match on Friday against Peru and marked the beginning of the Pan American Cup as the U.S. team walked away winners in Juarez, Mexico.
It was not a tough job for the U.S to finish off Peru in a clean sweep. Peru showed a bit of life in the first set of the game but their motivation as well as determination seemed to go downhill as Peru could not put up a competitive score in the second
or the third set of the game. The U.S. squad earned themselves a smooth victory at 25-20, 25-14 and 25-14.
Jen Tamas, who is the captain of the U.S. team, stated after the match, "I'm proud of my team. It was difficult to adjust to the air in the gym, but we just had to stick to the basics: serve and pass, and it all went well."
The U.S side is all set to make the most of their matches as its players have shown good form and performance so far. Prominent amongst the U.S squad was Foluke Akinradewo who propelled her team to put up a formidable offense with a attacking percentage
of 62.
There was a huge difference between the hitting efficiency of the U.S squad and the Peruvian side and this fact played an integral part in the North American team ability to secure the win. The U.S team was able to post an attacking percentage of .409 whereas
Peru could only muster a meagre .081 in comparison.
The Puerto Rican side is also coming into tonight’s match by making a clean sweep over Costa Rica at 25-10, 25-13, 25-21. With both the U.S squad and the Puerto Ricans playing at their best, the match will be a thrilling one that may be decided by who can
hold their nerves and not make any unnecessary errors.
