U.S. citizen getting married in Mexico?

Please only answer my question if you really know the answer, I am looking for serious information. I am a U.S. citizen, if I wanted to go to Mexico and marry a Mexican National how many certified and apostilled copies of my birth certificate will I need? Also, I know I need it translated into Spanish but how many copies of that do I need, and do I need to get that apostilled through the U.S. department of state AND at the Mexican Consulate, or just the Mexican Consulate?

  1. You probably have to get the marriage certificate notarized by the registro civil in Mexico, and then notarized by the U.S. Consulate in Mexico (after translated by US State Dept. referred translator)


  2. Secure your birth certificate and an equivalent Spanish translation.  Then have this stamped at the Mexican Consulate in the US in order that these will be legal in Mexico.

  3. They ask for one certified and apostilled copy of your birth certificate, plus they'll ask for at least one photocopy of it. The translation should also be one original and one photocopy; be sure that the translation is done by someone who is duly authorized.

    I don't think you can get U.S. documents apostilled through the Mexican consulate; I believe that is done through the Secretary of State in your local state (not at the national level).
