U.S. defeated by Dominican Republic in X Women’s Pan American Cup semi-final
One of the semi-final matches of the X Women’s Pan American Cup saw U.S. and Dominican Republic compete against each other on Friday.
The contest that took place in Juarez, Mexico went on until four sets by the end of which Dominican Republic had secured itself the ticket into the final round.
The U.S. team could only manage a victory in the first set of the match while the Dominican Republic were able to easily take the next three sets for their own. By the time that the night was out, the final set scores stood at the following points: 21-25,
25-19, 25-21 and 25-21.
The opening set of the match was pretty much one sided with the U.S squad coming out strong right from the start. They had the lead for themselves at 5-1. All through the initial set of the game, Dominican Republic could not manage to overtake the U.S. squad
and at the most, trailed behind two points.
As a result, it was not a hard job for the U.S. side to bag the first set of the game at 25-21.The U.S.  team registered a total of seven errors in the first set but they were able to counter the effect by having a 4-0 advantage over Dominican Republic in
terms of blocks.
The start of the second set of the game went well for the Americans as they were able to build upon the momentum generated by winning the first set. The U.S. had the lead at 3-1 but Dominican Republic did not take long in reaching a tie at 5-5 which they
changed into an 8-7 advantage later on.
Despite the fact that a time out intervened, Dominican Republic were able to maintain their dominance by extending the lead to 13-9. After an intense struggle, the Americans were able to tie the set at 18-18 but Dominican Republic prevailed in the end by
securing the second set at 25-19.
The third set saw Dominican Republic take the advantage at 4-1 and brought it to 7-2. The set was at a tie at 13-13 but Dominican Republic took the lead again at 16-13. The Americans did not give up and made the score even at 21-21 but it was the Dominican
Republic that was able to grab the third set at 25-21.
Being at a 2-1 deficit did not work well with the Americans in the fourth set of the game that went the way of Dominican Republic at 25-21.
Next in line for the U.S. squad is a match against Cuba. Both the teams would be contesting to adorn the bronze medal around their necks on Saturday. Cuba’s advance into the tournament was put to a stop by the Brazilian side that defeated the Cubans by 25-19,
25-14, 26-28 and 25-15 in the other semi final match.
