U.S defeats China by 3-2 in a FIVB World Cup match - Volleyball news
The American women’s national volleyball team had a match with China on November 15 as part of the FIVB World Cup that is currently being played in Japan. Tokyo's Yoyogi National Stadium saw a tough match in which the Americans prevailed by 3-2.
The five thrilling sets were nail biters until the very end. After a tough competition and an impressive show from both sides, the Americans came out on top. The first set of the match started off on level grounds and both the teams remained close to each
other despite the lead changes. However, near the end of the match the U.S were able to propel themselves forwards and bag the opening set of the game. The loss of the first set did not sit well with the Chinese and they were able to step up their game in
the second set but the Americans matched the performance of their rivals and bagged another win. The loss of the first as well as the second sets triggered the Chinese into asserting themselves on the courts and they brought all the energy that they had in
order to avoid a clean sweep and got hold of the third set.
The momentum generated by winning the third set of the game took the Chinese forwards to win the fourth set as well and the match was brought to a decisive fifth one in which the Americans put up a superior performance and sealed the deal on the match at
the following final set scores: 25-21, 31-29, 18-25, 19-25 and 15-10.
The coach of the Americans team, Hugh McCutcheon, made the following comments after his team had won the tough competition: “I’m extremely proud of our team today. China is playing good volleyball. Their style is different than most teams here. We started
well and showed poise in the second set coming from behind and again in the fifth set. I’m extremely satisfied with how we played.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Chinese team, Yu Juemin, shared his views by giving the following statements: “First I’d like to congratulate the US team on its win. And we have managed to play five sets with one of the best teams, and for us we have
learned a lot. And today is our ninth game we have two more to go, we’re satisfied with our game and we hope to play well in the next two.”
With the recent win, the Americans have been able to gather a total of 23 points in this tournament.
