U.S. defeats Mexico 3-0 on the third day of London Volleyball Invitational
The third day of the London Volleyball Invitational took place on Friday, July 17, and featured a match between Mexico and U.S. It did not take long for the American squad to finish off the Mexican side by making a clean sweep over the South American squad.
Not only did the U.S. team win the match by securing three consecutive sets, they were able to win each one by quite a margin.
The first set of the match saw the Americans remain dominant in Earls Court for the most part. Despite the fact that the Mexicans tried to gain control, the Americans kept the lead through at the match. In the second set, the Mexicans lost more steam and
showed a decrease in their performance. The Americans took advantage of the decreased morale of their opponents and were relentless throughout the set. They were able to take the lead early on and kept the advantage as the Mexicans tried to close in the gap
unsuccessfully. Playing with a deficit of two sets, the Mexicans could not rally themselves together in order to step up their game and lost the match to the Americans by: 25-19, 25-17 and 25-18.
With their recent win, the Americans have been able to tally a total of two wins to their credit in the invitational so far, while having suffered one loss. On the other hand, the Mexicans have yet to make a win as they are cradling three defeats.
Next in line for the U.S. team is a match against the home team whereas the Mexicans will be playing Serbia to see if they can break their own losing streak. It will be a tough job as the Serbians have lost only one match so far. The defeat was handed out
to Serbia yesterday at the hands of the Egyptians.
The U.S. side worked as a team to keep the pressure on the Mexicans all through the match. Significant contributions were made by more than one player which helped the U.S. to create a comfortable win. The players that played an important part were Evan
Patak as well as Jayson Jablonsky, both who topped the scorers by tallying 12 points each. Max Holt was able to make his presence felt by registering 11 points for the Americans.
Overall, the Americans were able to seal the deal against the Mexicans thanks to their attacking department. The number of successful kills that the U.S. side made was 43, which were accomplished after making 71 attempts. On the other hand, 28 of the Mexican
kills landed on the other side of the court after making 68 tries.
