U.S. defeats Thailand 3-0: FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship - Volleyball
The Americans were up against Thailand in Pool G match of the FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship. The venue of the competition was the Ankara Arena Hall in Turkey where the second round of the tournament is currently taking place. The clash between the
two teams was a thrilling one to watch as the Thai put up a commendable fight before going down by 0-3 to the Americans.
Even though Thailand lost the match in three back to back sets, they put up a tough fight against the Americans. The first set of the match proceeded to be longer than expected as Thailand did not give up the struggle for a long time. The second set started
with both teams locking horns together but eventually the Americans got ahead of their rivals. Likewise, the third set was competitive and remained tight until the very end before the Americans managed to pull off a final win, sealing the deal on the match
at the following final set scores: 33-31, 25-10 and 25-22.
The coach of the U.S. squad, James Stone, shared his feelings by giving these statements at the press conference after the match: “We played with a good spirit in this match, it was a hard game, their attacking was very good, they forced us to put effort
on defences but we won. Really it was an interesting match.”
On the other hand, the Thai coach, Jarun Niemtuptim, expressed himself in this manner: "Our players played as we practiced. We played very good against a team like USA. We had problems because of height differences compared to USA players. I congratulate
the USA. Tomorrow we will fight against Slovakia and we should win.”
The beginning of the opening set saw Thailand take the lead at 6-1 and go towards the first technical time out at an 8-4 advantage. However, the Americans did not let their rivals get too far and equalised the set by bringing the match to a 15-15 tie. Eventually,
the Americans were leading at 23-21 and Thailand tried their hardest to get their hands on the first set of the game but the Americans finally succeeded in bagging a win at 33-31.
The second set of the game brought the Americans a lead at 8-6 which they were able to extend until the second technical time out at 16-7. Thailand could not put up a significant effort to stop the U.S. from winning the set in a decisive fashion at 25-10.
The third set of the match remained close all through with Thailand leading in the beginning at 8-7 but the U.S. had the lead at 19-16 later on that sped them to a 25-22 victory.
The Americans were able to up their record to 2-0 in the second round of the tournament with their recent victory while Thailand is limping with a 1-1 statistic.
