  1. Ive been every summer for the last 3 years and its breath takingly beautiful. There is so much history in every city you visit. Dublin of course is a great place for shopping. But the further away from the big cities the more gorgous it gets. Make sure to visit the Irish Sea.

  2. I have lived here for fifteen years and love it. It is so beautiful. I live on the North coast and It is stunning. I think folks in rural areas  are less friendly under the surface that you imagine.

It is clean and peaceful and the major cities are lively and interesting. The dynamics of North South are interesting. I work in Derry and that is a very loved city by people who come from Australia and America NZ etc.

  3. theres grass.. lots of grass.. i like grass.. we can go together! ^_^ hehe

  4. Dublin, for all that it's the capital of the Irish Republic, is still very English in feel. Make sure you get out and experience the real Ireland while you're here. Head north, south or west.

Public transport in Ireland in general is terrible, but the LUAS in Dublin is a godsend, and there should be more systems like this.

Generally Irish people are polite and friendly, but loud, agressive and opinioniated people are not really tolerated. Especially if they are heavy drinkers.

The concept of the drunken Irish person is something of a myth, but there are people around who drink too much. I think that hard drugs are more of a problem in the country now. Just say no!

Complete strangers will talk to you anywhere, yesterday I was waiting while my car was being serviced and an older man was telling me his life story and about his wife who died many years before. I'd never met him before but it was nice to be talked to like that.

Do NOT go on about how your great grandmother left Donegal (or wherever) and your great grand father left Tipperary (or wherever) in the year dot and you consider yourself Irish for this reason. You have Irish ancestors, yes, but you are AMERICAN. We don't care where your ancestors are from unless we can make some money out of tracing your family history for you! Sorry to be harsh but this is the hard fact.

Italian, Chinese, Indian cuisine are all very popular in Ireland. In Limerick, close to where I live, the best Indian restaurant is the Mogul Emperor on Henry Street. Eastern Mediterranean is also becoming popular, I'm starting to see real kebab places springing up. Not many places do the 'traditional' Irish food anymore, but that's okay, because the overall quality of what you now get in restaurants and cafes is vastly improved over what was available 20 years ago. So your bacon and cabbage is much nicer than it would have been - the cabbage is not overcooked and is still slightly crisp and sweet. The way cabbage should be!

There are lots of people from Eastern Europe living and working in Ireland, so you are more likely to hear Polish spoken that Irish in Dublin. It's nice for Irish women, because these foreign men look after themselves a lot better and are far easier on the eye than a lot of Irish men, so that the Irish men have had to make more of an effort to be appealing .... no bad thing! Charm and wit alone just don't cut the mustard anymore ....

    Enjoy your stay in Ireland.

  5. I'm 100% Irish and proud!!

Just before you come brush up on local knowledge such as

We are NOT part of the UK etc! or else you'll get called a Yank, and us Irish hate tourists who know nothing and make silly mistakes!

    sorry it's the truth!

Us Irish are really nice though! We were voted the nicest nation on EARTH!!

    xx

  6. There's rain and more rain, oh and more rain, very cold and windy, oh and did I mention rain!!

  7. ,I have had a holiday in Southern Ireland and the people there were fantastic. Perhaps some one from or has been to, Northern Ireland could support the North of the country as I have not been there.

  8. watch the movie "ps i love you"
