The weird part is this: "...the lion subsequently dragged the man's body a short distance into nearby woodland and ate and buried parts of it."

Since when do CATS bury parts to save it for later? Dogs do that...but Cats?!!

Have any of you ever heard of this before?

  1. Burying and/or hiding away an uneaten part of a kill is actually a common practice. Lions in Africa seldom do it because there's almost always a pride of the cats and they pretty well completely consume the prey animal in one sitting. Leopards will leave leftovers stashed high up in a tree, while Cheetahs often drag the animal into brush and rake leaves and branches over it. Tigers also will bury or hide their prey.

Domestic cats have lost the instinct because they've learned that their next meal is just around the corner as soon as their owner opens a can.

  2. It's not at all an uncommon thing for a cougar to do...

..they make a kill and if they cant eat it all, will cover the remainder with litter, and lay up a day or two and feed on it off and on for as long as the carcas remains undiscovered by other preditors.

Once the carcas decomposes beyond there hungers drive to gorge, they leave what ever remains.

Big toms cover kills more freequently than will the females... females usualy have her kittens around to help eat it.

  3. Of course cats do this....totally common.  Even housecats do this with their cat food..mine have always done this..it is left over from their wild days.

  4. Yes, cats do bury uneaten prey with grass and leaves. I have seen where bobcats covered partially eatten turkeys.

  5. Burying or not burying is not what's important here.

This kind of thing, with Mountain Lions attacking people, is happening more and more often.  Why?  Because mankind does not "really" care for the wildlife on this planet.  His total disregard for his supposed "need" to reproduce like mice, with no concern for the rampant continued over population of the earth, proves it.  Our human population continues to "swell" into the natural habitats of these wild animals and others, and thereby "pushes" them out, and "into" our living areas.  What can they do?  We are building homes and cutting down trees "in" their territories.  And, also by doing this, we are offering them food they never bothered with, or were too afraid to risk, like domesticated dogs, cats, and human beings.

People MUST become responsible enough to realize the detrimental consequences of breeding like they do.  Families of more than 2 children should NOT be encouraged, or rewarded with tax benefits.  Just the opposite should take place.

We are going to breed ourselves out of existence, because this will destroy all our wildlife and use up all our natural resources.
