U.S. men’s beach volleyball teams to play in Morocco Open quarter-finals
Two of the US men’s volleyball beach teams will be showcasing their skills today, October 7, as they have been able to advance in the Morocco Open tournament, the final event in the FIVB Swatch World Tour, to the quarter-finals.
The two teams that will be playing the match include Matt Fuerbringer and Nick Lucena as well as the duo of Casey Jennings and Kevin Wong. Both Fuerbringer as well as Lucena who are 11th seeded were able to defeat their 13th seeded
counterparts namely Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal. The match lasted for a total of 56 minutes and saw both teams trying battling hard for a win. In the end, the win rested with Fuerbringer and Lucena who sealed the deal on the match at the following final set
scores: 21-16, 16-21 and 15-13.
Gibb and Rosenthal could not advance in the tournament as they were also handed out a defeat by the 17th seeded Brazilian squad that consisted of Pedro Solberg Salgado and Rhooney de Oliveira Ferramenta. The Brazilians were able to earn a win
within a period of 41 minutes. The final set scores stood at the following figures: 21-14 and 23-21.
Next in line for Fuerbringer and Lucena is a match with the 17th seeded duo of Reinder Nummerdor and Richard Schuil both of whom belong to Netherlands. The team that wins the match today will be able to make its way into the semi-final round of
the competition that is scheduled to take place on Sunday.
On the other, Jennings and Wong were not able to be on the winning end in the match that took place on Friday with Nummerdor and Schuil and lasted for a total of 55 minutes. Jennings and Wong lost the match at 18-21, 21-17 and 10-15. However, Jennings and
Wong were able to redeem themselves as they handed out a defeat to the third seeded team from Switzerland consisting of Patrick Heuscher and Jefferson Bellaquarda in 33 minutes. By the time that they were done, the final set scores stood at the following:
21-19 and 21-12.
