U.S. men’s sitting volleyball team defeats Mexico by 3-0
The U.S. men’s sitting volleyball team had a match with the Mexican squad on November 14 in the Parapan American Games that are being staged in the Mexican city of Guadalajara. The contest between the Americans and the home team got to its closure soon enough
as the U.S. were able to get to the finish line as winners after they successfully bagged three sets back to back.
Not only did the Americans make a clean sweep over their rivals they were able to smother the Mexicans in the first as well as the second sets and achieve a comfortable win in the third one. By the time the day was done, the score board showed the following
final set scores: 25-13, 25-11 and 25-17.
The coach of the American sitting volleyball team expressed himself in the following way after his team had won the match: “It was a good day for Team USA. The wins help us in working toward the top seed going into the semi finals. The win against Brazil
is a confidence booster.”
The Americans gave a far better performance than the Mexicans in almost every aspect of the game. Both the attacking as well as the defensive skills of the U.S. squad were superior. The number of points that the Americans made on hits were 38 whereas the
Mexicans did not even get to the half of what the U.S scored on kills and made themselves 12 points. On the blocking end, the Americans got themselves eight points while the Mexicans could only muster five. The Americans also stood out in terms of service
aces as they were able to post six while the Mexicans made two.
The captain of the American squad, Brent Rasmussen shared his views by giving the following statements: “Earning two wins the first day of competition gives us a greater sense of confidence moving forward, because if we continue to focus and play our game
we can go all the way. We know we can earn a bid to London if we stay on this path.”
The American players who were able to score the most points were Roderick Green and J Dee Marinko each of whom kept the pressure on their rivals by adding six points each.
The first set of the match saw some sparks from the Mexicans but as the game progressed the Americans were able to dominate the courts pretty easily and bag themselves a win. With the first set in the hand, the Americans were able to start the second set
with confidence that gave them another win after which the third one was a piece of cake.
