U.S. sitting volleyball team to play Colombia in semi-final of Para Panamerican Zonal Championships
The U.S. Women’s sitting volleyball team will shortly be competing with the Colombians in the semi-final match of the Para Panamerican Zonal Championships. It will be the second time that the Americans will be up against the developing Colombian team in
the past two days.
The U.S. sitting volleyball team had a match with the Brazilians on September 29. The match was part of the Para Panamerican Zonal Championships that is currently taking place. The Americans were up against the Colombians and what followed was a three set
long match that ended almost as soon as it started. The Americans were celebrating their exceptional victory over the Colombians at the following final set scores: 25-0, 25-2 and 25-3.
As seen by the results, the Colombians were no match for the Americans and it was child’s play for the winning team. The Colombians had no chance at the win at any point in the match and it seemed that the points that they scored were almost lucky.
The difference in the volleyball skill of the two teams can be attributed to the fact that the Colombian sitting volleyball program is new whereas the Americans have had quite a lot of experience in comparison.
The head coach of the American team, Bill Hamiter, made the following comments at the press conference after his team had won the match: “Colombia put up a good fight but couldn’t match the experience of the U.S. Heather Erickson (Fayetteville, N.C./UCO
Resident Athlete) had a team-high 27 points and Nichole Millage (Champaign, Ill./UCO Resident Athlete) racked up 10 points.”
After having done with the Colombians, the Americans were up against the Brazilians whom they defeated in a clean sweep as well. However, the Brazilians put up a much better fight than the Colombians but the Americans were still able to bag the first and
the third sets by a comfortable margin. The second set saw the Brazilians come out strong but the Americans succeeded in winning the game at 25-17, 25-20 and 25-15.
What will become of today’s semi-final with Colombia still remains to be seen but it is widely speculated that America will turn up with another easy win.
