  1. the bread and oil is an Italian tradition served at every meal... generally it is called "Blessing"  and it is made with or without chopped garlic and spices... some people prefer just the oil.....

    thanks va falcon

  2. Definitely a Mediterranean food.

  3. I have had many times in Italian restaurants and it is really easy to make to enjoy at home too.

    Italian Bread Dipping Oil

    Ingredients (use vegan versions):

        1 tablespoon basil

        1 tablespoon parsley

1 tablespoon [about 2-3 cloves] minced garlic

        1 teaspoon thyme

        1 teaspoon oregano

        1 teaspoon pepper

        1/2 teaspoon rosemary

        1/2 teaspoon kosher/sea salt

        1/2 teaspoon olive oil

1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

        1/8 teaspoon lemon juice

    Directions:

Mix the above ingredients in a bowl, except the olive oil and lemon juice.

When you're ready to eat, put 1 1/2 teaspoons of the dry mixture on a pretty plate. Pour 3-4 tablespoons of olive oil on top the dry mixture, and enjoy with your favorite dipping bread. Mmmmm!

  4. Its 'tapas' from spain. I just asked my husband. He is a chef.

  5. Olive oil  and balsamic vinegar .... I've had it served at Italian AND Greek restaurants, so I'd imagine it's Mediterranean in origin

  6. Yup Italian and it is olive oil. btw MISS is hot

  7. Italian

  8. yes, italians eat olive oil but they do not serve oil to dip your bread in. i hate to tell you that appetizer originated in california when the mediterranean food trend became popular!

olive oil is on every tabel in italy to be used on pasta, salads. but it is so tasty, i can't blame people for wanting to dip bread in it...
