  1. I would still call you a vegan if you didnt eat anything from there. You need the money to get your education, who wouldnt do it?

  2. As long as you don't promote the use of animals for food or cause an increase of their consumption, you are just doing a job that would be done by someone else if you gave it up. Being unemployed and broke will definitely not help any animals.

  3. You can still call yourself a vegan.  As a restaurant manager, I worked for numerous meat purveying establishments.  I simply didn't eat the food.  It would be nice if everyone could work for companies whose business agreed with their personal ethics, but few of us have that luxury.

    Good luck in school.

  4. Of course you're still vegan.

Not many people have the luxury of choosing where they work and who for, even when they're no in the position of having to accept whatever's going while they're in school or college.

Hardly anyone works for an oganisation or company whose ethics are entirely in accord with their own.

You live in the real world; it isn't possible to live in a bubble of vegan purity. Getting through college, keeping a roof over your head, putting food on the table - we all have to earn money.

  5. Considering the economy and the times that we live in - having a job is a good thing.

Think about it this way - a business that you don't support morally is putting you thru school to make a change that very well could help bring about a change in society that will help such to go out of business.

  6. I like this question.  I worked at Sonic in high school and college, and I always felt a little bit guilty about it.  Seeing the other answers here makes me feel a little better.

The cool thing about working there is you get to learn which food are really vegetarian.

By the way, environmental science is a nice choice.  I hope you do well with that.

  7. Of course you're still a vegan. Additionally, you're taking their money. Good on ya! =)

Seriously, though, as long as you don't eat any of their products, you're not supporting them. The way I look at it is this: When you buy meat, you create a demand for it, so they will be able to sell more. But just by working at the store, you are not creating a demand. The business has a certain number of spaces to fill, and it will fill those spaces, then no more; in other words, if you weren't working there, they'd still have the same number of employees.

By not eating their food/creating a demand for it, you are helping the animals, and are still a vegan. Plus, you can use the money from the job to buy vegan-friendly products and create a demand for them instead. Personally, I would get sick from the smell of the place, but there's nothing morally wrong with just working there.

    :)
