UCI and UKAD sign an anti-doping agreement: Olympics
An agreement has been signed recently between UCI and the UK Anti-Doping body that raises the level of the fight against the use of drugs by the athletes. The agreement has been made between the two organizations keeping in mind the upcoming London 2012
Olympic Games.
Andy Parkinson, who is the Chief Executive of the UK Anti-Doping, made the following statements about the agreement that was inked between the two organisations: “In the countdown to next year’s Olympic and Paralympic Games, UK Anti-Doping is delighted to
work with the UCI, who have led the way in maximising the benefits the biological passport offers. Establishing this formal partnership is vital in our ability to tackle doping and crack down on those who insist on dishonestly enhancing their performance.
It also reinforces our joint ambition to pool resources and expertise in the fight against doping, not just in this country, but globally.”
Quite a lot of measures have already been taken in order to ensure a clean Olympic Games next year. Among other things, the Olympic sites will be equipped with the latest labs that will facilitate Olympic organisers in keeping a strict check and balance
by using on the spot testing. The recent agreement made between the two sides is a step in the right direction to facilitate the process of detecting drugs in athletes.
The authorities involved in the process include Interpol as well as other border control agencies that will be working in sync with the London 2012 Olympic Games organisers.
The president of the UCI also revealed that he was pleased with the development that has taken place between UCI and UKAD and is certain that important and right measures will be taken to eradicate the doping problem.
This time around, the Olympic Games are taking place in the city of London. It will be the third time that the capital of England will be welcoming the Games to its soil. This will make London the first city in the world to have hosted the Games for a total
of three time in its history. They took place for the first time in 1908 whereas the second time it was in 1948.
