Despite not being able to participate in the fixture due to a suspension picked up in the semi-final against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international was grateful to UEFA for making the right call.
Along with acting captain Frank Lampard, Terry lifted the trophy and wiped away the memories of their past failures. Ever since Russian billionaire bought the club in 2003, the UEFA Champions League has been somewhat of an obsession for the London club.
However, they have previously been really close to winning the trophy but have been unable to do so. The Blues have previously reached a final before, in 2008 against Manchester United, going on to lose to the Red Devils in the penalty shootout.
Terry said while speaking to reporters:
“Incredible feeling. I've waited so long for it, you know, and for it to finally be here wipes away all those bad memories.
Year after year, we've had some, but that completely wipes it away. For me, that's what we strived for.”
The central defender confirmed that while their previous runs in the Champions League had been painful, especially the final in Moscow where Terry had slipped and missed the penalty, their win against Bayern Munich had helped overcome the disappointment.
He revealed:
“Being knocked out of competitions in the last minute, losing on penalties before in Moscow and losing against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, that's something that lived with me.
But, all of a sudden, a big weight is off my shoulders and probably everyone within this football club.”
The Chelsea skipper admitted he was relieved with UEFA’s decision to allow him to lift the trophy with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 despite the fact that he had been suspended for the final. Terry revealed that was a memory that would stay with him forever.
Terry continued:
“That's something that will live with me forever, and if that would've been taken away, that would've been really hard to take.”
