UCLA Bruins’ Kevin Prince to have surgery
UCLA Bruins quarterback Kevin Prince will undergo exploratory arthroscopic knee surgery on his right knee on Saturday 23 October.
Prince first injured his knee when his team played the Texas Longhorns on 25 September. The injury forced him out of the club’s game against the Washington State Cougars the following week. However, he
would return to play against the California Golden Bears on 9 October. Unfortunately, after the game the knee was still bothering the young quarterback and he sat out of practice, receiving his second MRI on the injured knee. The injury forced him out of the
Bruins recent loss to the Oregon Ducks on Thursday 21 October and now the squad is uncertain as to whether or not he will be able to come back this season.
Coach Rick Neuheisel noted that the Bruins are unable to gauge how long Prince will be out until they receive the results from the scope.
“We’ll know more once they’re inside,” said the coach. “It’ll probably be at least a couple of weeks. It’s very unlikely he’ll be ready for anything in the Arizona game and we’ll see about Oregon State.”
If Prince were to miss the game against the Oregon State Beavers he will have been out of the line-up for three weeks in a row.
Prince’s injury has opened the door for back-up quarterback Richard Brehaut, who made the start against Washington State and Oregon. So far this season Berhaut is boasting a 1-1 record. However, in his
second game against the Ducks the club was embarrassed by the nations number two ranked team, losing 60-13.
The instability at the quarterback position has hurt the Bruins offence this year and the club has been forced to rely entirely on their running game. The club currently sits 118th in the nation
averaging a mere 104.6 yards per game through the air.
So far this season Prince has managed 384 yards and three touchdowns.
