UCLA Bruins confident about Richard Brehaut’s return
UCLA Bruins head coach Rick Neuheisel stated that starting quarterback Richard Brehaut has been cleared to practice with the team as of today, and is likely to be in the line-up for the squad’s upcoming game against the Arizona State Sun Devils.
Brehaut suffered a concussion in the squad’s week 12 game against the Washington Huskies and was forced out of the competition early in the third quarter. The youngster complained about haziness and memory loss, but Neuheisel made it clear that he has gone
through the necessary steps and is no longer experiencing symptoms.
“The good news is that he’s got no headaches,” Neuheisel told ESPN Los Angeles. “He’s had Saturday and Sunday with no symptoms, so they feel optimistic.”
Brehaut is set to come back to the club to practice with the squad today, after which the coaching staff will determine whether or not he is ready to be inserted in the line-up.
“He’s been asymptomatic for a couple of days now and I would expect that he will be available,” said Neuheisel. “He’ll be ready for practice and hopefully he’ll be ready for the game.”
The Bruins will be keen to get Brehaut back, as the club still has slim hopes of bowl eligibility. UCLA will have to win their final two games if they hope to have a chance at qualifying for a bowl game. The squad faces off against the Sun Devils in week
13 with their final game coming against the USC Trojans on 4 December.
Currently sitting at 4-6 with a 2-5 record against conference opponent, qualifying for a bowl game would be a welcomed surprise for Bruins fans, who have endured an up-and-down 2010 campaign.
So far this season Brehaut has managed 745 yards and 2 touchdowns.
