UDRS system not to be used in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s Test series against New Zealand
The much criticised Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS) will not be used in the forthcoming Test series between Pakistan and New Zealand. According to well placed sources, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 Cricket (NZC) mutually agreed
not to use the new review system in the Test series next month.
The Test series is scheduled to begin from 7 January next year. The two Test match series will be played without the latest technology, which allows teams to challenge the on-field umpires’ decision. Pakistan will play the first Test match against New Zealand
at Hamilton, while the second Test match will be played at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wellington-c864 from 15 January.
The new review system has been heavily criticised by former and current players. Distressed and injured Australian captain Ricky Ponting has been a vocal critic of the system, as he slammed the review system on numerous occasions during the Ashes series.
Ponting also found himself in a referral row with umpire Aleem Dar in the Fourth Ashes Test match in Melbourne. Ponting argued with the umpire when he rejected an appeal against England’s batsman Kevin Pietersen. He challenged Dar’s decision and asked for
a referral. The TV umpire http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marais-Erasmus-c74368 reviewed the footage and the decision was upheld. However Ponting seemed flabbergasted and continued to debate with the square-leg umpire, Tony Hill. The International Cricket Council (ICC) found him guilty of breaching
the code of conduct and fined him 40 percent of his match fees.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 also stated that there are flaws in the system which might create some controversies. The experimental system was officially introduced by the ICC on 24 November,
2009 in the first Test match between Pakistan and New Zealand in Dunedin at the University Oval. The system is currently being used in Test cricket only but its use is being extended to next year’s World Cup in February. However there has not been any decision
about what stage of the competition it will be used.
UDRS or a decision review system (DRS) gives both teams’ two challenges per innings. The fielding side is able to refer a not out call, while the batting side can dispute the out call. The system is currently undergoing an experimental phase and according
to the ICC it was introduced for the sole purpose of making the umpiring system more uniform.
