UEFA Champions League 2010-11 Day one-2nd leg: Arsenal, Chelsea, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Bayern Munich all win their matches
Some big names were in action Wednesday night during the 2nd leg of UEFA Champions League
2010-11 match-day one as EPL champions Chelsea, Arsenal, AC Milan, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich all took to the pitch.
It was the Arsenal’s world cup winning midfielder, Cesc Fabregas, who was on target along with Carlos Vela as both scored twice against Braga during the 6 nil demolition at the Emirates Stadium. Fabregas got the ball rolling with a penalty in the 9th
minute that pretty much set the tone for the Gunners in the night, while City rivals Chelsea were also running riot against Zilina from Slovakia.
The Russian prodigy, Andrey Arshavin along with Chamak got in to the act before half time, and as Fabregas got his second, the match was all but in the bag for Arsenal. In the 2nd half, Carlos Vela replaced Cesc and took it upon himself to put
a cherry on top of a fabulous performance for the former Premier League champions.
Meanwhile, Chelsea were also not far behind in Slovakia as Nicolas Anelka struck twice in a comfortable 4-1 win for Carlo Ancelotti’s men. The Ghana Captain, Michael Essien, who had missed the world cup due to an injury, got the first goal of the match while
Daniel Sturidge finished the scoring with the 4th later on.
The highly anticipated Real Madrid under Jose Mourinho looked sharp against the Dutch outfit, Ajax. Ronaldo and company left the Dutch side chasing shadows for most of the time in the match but it was the Argentine Gonzalo Higuain, who got both the goals.
The first half saw a bit apprehensive Real Madrid, but they soon got into their act. As expected, Ronaldo was the one calling the shots in the middle of the park.
Marcello and the new singing, Di Maria had a number of chances but they couldn’t materialize. Di Maria in particular could have used his left foot to a better effect but he missed 3 times. Eventually, the breakthrough came from a set piece as a corner from
Alonso was curled in and Higuain got some part of his leg on the ball to guide it in. The Argentine doubled his tally in the 2nd half to complete a comfortable 2-0 win.
Another Group G match saw AC Milan give a good run for their money to the underdogs from France, Auxerrer. Zlatan Ibrahimovic proved his worth by scoring 2 goals to earn his side a 2-0 win. Meanwhile, the German Champions, Bayern Munich were made to work
hard against Roma in a Group E match. Thomas Muller converted an excellent volley just 12 minutes from time while Mroslav Klose latched onto a good pass in the box to make it 2 nil.
Moreover, CFR Cluj registered a win against the Swiss team, Basle, with both Ionut Rada and Lacina Traore being on the score-sheet for the Romanians. Although, Basle did get a consolation from Valentin Stocker in the 44th minute but the match
ended 2-1.
In Group H, Shahkhtar Denesk got 3 points against Partizan Belgrade for posting 1-0. Darijo Srna Wa made it to the score sheet for Denesk. Spartak Moscow also got a win in Group F as they defeated Marseille by 1-0.
