UEFA Champions League 2010 Final Match Preview
Inter Milan and Bayern Munich have had tremendous domestic success in 2009-10, and as the biggest match in club competition the Final of UEFA Champions league is upon us, both giants of European football are on the verge of completing a historic double, but when dust settles there will only be one winner, and one Treble, who will it be? Well no one can say for sure, but lets just ponder on some points which may determine who has the upper hand.
Apart from the treble being part of history there is more to play for as far as both the coaches are concerned, once they were Student and Teacher back in Barcelona, but now both come face to face in a bid to become get the honour of guiding 2 different clubs to the champions league glory.
Inter have been the team to beat in Italy for a long time, with the consecutive title under their belt, they have certainly shown who has the upper hand, as far as the Ac Milan and Inter Milan Rivalry is concerned, AC Milan who faded away after the match fixing controversy back in 2006, have since not been able to match inter. It is however European success which still gives AC Milan the edge over Inter, as Ac have been champions of Europe on Multiple occasions , and twice in the last 5 years, but Inter have not tasted success in Europe for more than 4 decades. And that is what the blue side of Milan wants the most.
Jose Mourinho who was brought to Milan, specially to do the Italian Job in Europe, has taken 2 seasons to get them this far, and as all things point to an exit for the Portuguese, what better way can there be to leave with fulfilling their ultimate dream. As he has already won the Serie-A, and Copa Italia this season.
Inter’s road to the final has been phenomenal, right from the group stages, Inter have had it tough, they had to beat Rubin Kazan on the final match day of group matches to make it to the knockout rounds, while in the do or die affairs, they have overcome big names like his old club Chelsea, and more importantly Barcelona in the Semi final, which will go down as one of the most fiercely and cleverly contested 2 legged semi final.
Mourinho, who made his name by taking FC Porto from Portugal to first UEFA cup glory, and then took the underdogs all the way to the final of the Champions league the very next season, which made the world stand up and take notice, and he has not looked back ever since. Taking Chelsea to back to back league titles in his first 2 seasons, and doing the same at Inter, but European success has since eluded him, and now he stands 9 minutes away from yet another Champions league win.
Bayern Munich who have also not been at this stage for a while, will not be intimidated by the team making their way to the top in Europe, after all they have the man who taught Mourinho few tricks of the trade, and he would know exactly what to expect, but Mourinho has for sure evolved to a great degree since he was a pupil of Van Gaal. Rest assured he will have more tricks up his sleeve, and traps will be set for Bayern.
Once again it’s difficult to say who will come on top, but all things point to a grinded hard fight for Inter, as they not only have too much quality, but they want it more than probably Bayern and the Hunger and Desire of Inter will prevail over pure Genius and quality of Bayern.
