UEFA Champions League Analysis – Group C
UEFA Champions League Group C had a predictable outlook at the start of the season. After three rounds of football however, things certainly look exciting. Predictably, Manchester United stays top of the group. It is the battle for second position that will
keep fans across the continent waiting in anticipation. Deprived of their star men David Villa and David Silva, Valencia has been unable to make an impact on the competition as Scottish Premier League outfit Rangers are second in the group.
Manchester United FC
The Red Devils have 7 points from their opening three fixtures. United has been far from its imperious self as the team has managed to score just two goals so far. Indeed both the victories have come courtesy of a 1- 0 score line but their game play has
been a bit impressive. Wayne Rooney’s pathetic form and off field antics coupled with injuries to key players like Antonio Valencia have proved detrimental to the club’s attacking style of play. However, United will easily top the group and go through to the
second round. Wayne Rooney has signed a new contract recently that is set to end the speculation related to his future. Also, Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez has shown tremendous potential and should the Mexican be a given a chance, he might just end United’s
scoring woes.
Rangers FC
Scottish Premier League team Rangers currently stands second in the group, just a solitary point above Valencia. Rangers are undefeated following a victory and two draws. Teddy Bears have recorded two draws against United and Valencia while their sole victory
came against Bursaspor at Ibrox stadium. Rangers have scored just two goals thus far in the competition and with tricky fixtures in United’s visit and trip to Mestalla stadium still to go, the most Rangers can eke out is a single point over the next two fixtures.
Rangers are unlikely to finish second in the group, Europa League spot is what Rangers will achieve.
Valencia FC
Valencianistas stands third in the group with 4 points from opening three fixtures. Valencia has scored the most goals in Group C yet ironically they stand third. Rangers’ trip to Mestalla on November 2ndwill be the ideal opportunity for Los Che
to overtake the Scottish side. A victory over Bursaspor should be a formality for Valencia. The club has shown sublime domestic form so far this season and one can expect them to translate the form on to the European stage sooner or later. By the time Valencia
makes the trip to Old Trafford on match day six, Los Che should be able to cement a place in the knock out stage.
Bursaspor
Bursaspor Kulübü Derneği was a completely unknown club at the start of this season. Indeed many got to know about this little known Turkish club only this year. The primary continental competition requires experience and big match pedigree as a recipe to
success. Sadly, Bursaspor possess none of the mentioned traits. Even a single point will be a bonus for Turkish minnows as they look set to leave the continental competition at the end of the group stage.
