UEFA Champions League – Barcelona vs. Rubin Kazan – Full Time Report and Analysis (Part 2)
The Spanish Champions were looking forward to scoring another goal as Lionel Messi was trying his best to get past almost all the defenders of the Russian side – he was simply looking sensational since the time he entered the pitch. The Russians needed to
climb a mountain as the Danish Champions FC Copenhagen were 2 goals up during the 70th minute of the game as they were facing the Greek Champions FC Panathinaikos.
Now, Barcelona were trying to look for Messi as Thiago Alacantara and Sergio Busquets all tried to provide him with a killer ball so he can find that one goal to equal Samuel Eto’o’s goals in the UEFA Champions League this season. Samuel Eto’o, however did
not really look to be scoring any goals for the Italian side tonight as they were facing the German underdogs Werder Bremen in Germany and they were two goals down against them and it was simply clear that the Cameroonian was not going to score for his side
tonight. On the other hand, Lionel Messi was playing with a young Barcelona side and against a team who were totally at the edge of their box to defend. Now, it was totally up to the Argentinean to find that goal within the 20 minutes time that he was given
by Josep Guardiola.
Lionel Messi was constantly being a threat to the Rubin Kazan defensive walls and rightly so, he managed to take 3 shots on target in only the first 8 minutes of the time that he got on the pitch. Even though Lionel Messi couldn’t find the goal that he was
looking for, it was the young Barcelona striker Victor Vazquez who did. After a short free kick taken by Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets got the ball right outside the 18 yard box and the young holding midfielder played it on towards Vazquez who made no mistake
in finishing the ball into the net. Now Barcelona were totally dominating the game as they were winning it with a two goal margin. With this win, the Catalan Giants were topping the group with 14 points.
Barcelona totally shattered the Russian side’s dreams, not like they did themselves any favours but it was totally an embarrassment to see how most of the Barcelona B team squad totally dominated the game against the Russian Champions. The Spanish Champions
were up and running even after playing so many youngsters and with this win, Josep Guardiola managed to continue his record of not being beaten by the same manager twice.
There was some late action during the game and it was from none other than Lionel Messi himself. The Argentinean ace drove past 3 Rubin Kazan defenders and took a shot from his stronger left foot from right outside the 18 yard box. Even though the shot was
totally incredible but it went just past the post and he could not find the goal that he was looking for and with that shot the game came to an end.
With Barcelona winning it, they confirmed their top-of-the-table spot in their UEFA Champions League group and they were followed by the Danish Champions FC Copenhagen at the number 2 spot on the points table.
