UEFA Champions League: Bayern Munich 3-0 vs FC Basel – Full Time Report
With the teams returning for second half, the coaches decided not to change anything as they looked satisfied with their teams' performances. Bayern Munich were to kick off and the German Champions were in total control of the game as Basel were totally
clueless and off position whenever the Germans were on the break.
After 3 minutes, Stellar was withdrawn by FC Basel and Granit Xhaka was introduced. While the substitution was made, the Germans managed to make another counter attack and it was Frank Ribery who bagged his second of the evening as he side footed Thomas
Muller's low cross from the right – it was simply an outstanding move by the German Champions.
The Frenchman Frank Ribery presented the fans with an “endearing” moment as he ran towards his brother in the crowd and celebrated with him. The Germans were simply on fire as they felt ruthless against Basel while performing on their home ground.
Soon, Mario Gomez had the chance to score a goal from Bastian Shweinsteiger’s cross but the German striker could not really capitalize and connected poorly with a side kick. It was quite clear that the home team was now in total control of the game as they
were leading with 3 goals to their name.
During the 57th minute, another substitution took place for the visitors as Cabral was taken off and Federico Almerares came on to join his side in the attack. On the other end, the Germans were putting more pressure on Basel’s goalkeeper and
it was Frank Ribery with a shot on goal that deflected off Constanzo’s left hand and then the German midfielder Bastian Shweinsteiger tried his luck on goal but he was again denied and another chance was wasted by the Germans to score the fourth goal of the
game.
Fwayo Tembo was brought on by the visitors as Basel were to make their last change during the 80th minute of the game. Shaqiri was the one who was taken off and the midfielder looked to be having quite an off-night even as he saw himself in front
of goal twice and couldn’t really convert the opportunity.
The Germans won the game 3-0 at home which means that Roma qualified along with Bayern Munich for the next stage of the UEFA Champions League; the pre quarter finals. Now Munich were at the top of their group and they could face teams like Inter Milan, Arsenal,
AC Milan and even Olymique Lyon who were on the number two spot of their group’s points table.
With 5 wins out of 6 for the German Champions, it was pretty clear that they did not lose their touch of last year when they managed to reach the final against Inter Milan which they actually lost. Now the point is, with Arjen Robben returning, are they
going to sacrifice the in-form Toni Kroos? Well, that is a question only time can answer.
