UEFA Champions League – Bayern Munich vs. Roma – Full Time Report
Even though the first half was goalless for both the sides, the home team still had possession over the ball as they tried to penetrate the Italian defence. On the other hand, Roma seemed barely interested in going past the halfway
line.
After the first half not many substitutions were required as both the teams were performing extremely well even though the Italians were under a fair amount of pressure. Despite the fact that there weren't any substitutions at
the start of the second half, the German team's coach Louis Van Gaal decided to change things tactically as Thomas Muller moved to the left flank while Hamit Altintop established himself on the right.
In the 51st minute, Totti took a corner and the cross was vital as Butt failed to catch the ball. However, the chance was thrown away by the Roman strike force as no one even tried to deflect the ball into the net.
With the Italians being a threat in the other half, it was the German side who tried to attack and score a goal. They almost succeeded with a fabulous shot from Kroos who was well denied by Julio Sergio. Sergio stood his ground
well throughout the first 20 minutes of the second half and denied the German attackers time and time again.
Soon, in the 67th minute it was time for Olic to go for the German side as Mario Gomez was introduced and Altintop was replaced by Miroslav Klose. It was now obvious that the Germans were desperate to score a goal but
the Roman defence and the Roman goalkeeper kept shutting the door. With Klose on, there was hope that his experience could break the deadlock for the Bavarian side.
The German team possesses a lot of talent with World Cup stars Muller and Schweinsteiger, with the former winning the best young player of the 2010 FIFA World Cup held in South Africa.
With such great talent in the team, it was going to be a hard task for Roma to keep the Germans out. Moreover, they started to tire and their efforts at seeking a goal for themselves started to fade.
Later in the game, during the 75th minute, the German side starting to put together a really good move and use their possession smartly around the 18-yard box. The passing was eventually well served as Thomas Muller
found the net in the 79th minute with his right foot.
With Muller's goal, things changed a lot for both the sides. The Italians tried to get out of their own half in order to equalize, but their efforts were too little too late. Bayern put together another classy move and this time
Klose was on hand to put the finishing touches.
With two goals to Bayern’s name, the game was all but over for Roma. Totti was substituted as Menez took his place in the 88th minute, with an eye perhaps for the Serie A game at the weekend.
The match ended with Bayern winning it 2-0 as Thomas Muller and Klose were the two goal scorers for the German team.
