UEFA Champions League: Grotesque Gattuso mars Milan’s image
As proceedings in Genaro Gattuso’s case evolve over the course of the weekend at UEFA’s headquarters, one can’t help but wonder as to what A.C. Milan’s captain was thinking during Rossoneri’s matchup against Tottenham in the UEFA Champions League round of
sixteen.
It was truly disappointing to see Gattuso’s attitude during Milan’s one goal defeat to Spurs at San Siro on Tuesday night.
The Italian midfielder has built up a respectable reputation over the past decade for being a no nonsense defensive enforcer, who protects A.C. Milan’s back four.
However, on Tuesday night that reputation went down the toilet drain as Gattuso lashed out (not once but twice) at Joe http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jordan-c2929. In all honesty, it looked as if frustration was building up inside the 2006 FIFA World Cup winner throughout the match.
In the first half, Tottenham’s midfielder, Rafael Van Der Vaart, schooled Gattuso in the art of playmaking, as the Dutchman roamed all across the field.
In doing so, the former Real Madrid man tested Genaro’s endurance abilities, which have deteriorated significantly at the age of 33. In the second half, after Van Der Vaart had been taken off the field by Harry Redknapp, Gattuso picked on the tall and lanky

Standing approximately a foot short of the 6 ft. 7 inch striker, it was already a mismatch but as soon as the Milanese captain realized that his team were not up to the task when it came to playing some football, Gattuso thought that maybe a brawl would
suit them.
Milan are a club which have become respected throughout the football world. In the past, players such as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Franco-c14050 Baresi, Cafu and Maldini have captained the seven time European champions.
However, what Gattuso did on Tuesday night not only went against the aristocratic image of A.C. Milan but also goes against the football values of Massimiliano Allegri’s team.
Over the course of the last two decades, Milan have won four European Cups and six Serie A titles.
Additionally, the Rossoneri contributed to the Italian team’s triumph at the 2006 FIFA World Cup through the presence of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904.
UEFA have already showcased their lenient stance towards the whole saga that unfolded at San Siro by filing a charge of “gross unsporting conduct”, against the midfielder. For the sake of justice, UEFA are now going to take their own course of action, which
will at the minimum result in a three match ban for Milan’s club captain.
Most pundits are suggesting that Gattuso will get away with a four match ban plus a heavy fine but that won’t do justice to the whole matter. With UEFA’s respect campaign on the line, European football’s governing body has to take concrete action against
Genaro Gattuso.
Furthermore, A.C. Milan should also consider some domestic action against Gattuso, but such an idea might not gain much familiarity with Milan’s faithful fans, who are actually standing by Genaro Gattuso in this time of disgrace.
If Milan really are to take into account the damage Gattuso inflicted upon the club’s image as a whole, then they should ask themselves what Paolo Maldini would’ve done.
In reality, if Gattuso wants to show his love for the Rossoneri and win them games then he would do well to mirror the precedent set by “Il Capitan”.
