UEFA Champions League Half Time Report: CFR Cluj vs Basel
Tonight's game between Cluj and Basel was looking to be one of the most unpredictable matches to date in the Champions League. This was mainly due to the fact that both these teams had never faced against each other in the past, in fact neither of the teams
had faced opponents from the opposing country before either.
Going into the game experts found it very hard to depict exactly what was going to happen. Considering both the teams were currently on par in their domestic leagues it only made predicting the game even harder. However both the teams were aware of the three
points that were up for grabs and were hence determined to go all out to get them.
Despite that fact a few of the experts eventually ended up picking Cluj to win the game, it was down to the fact that Cluj has a slightly better defensive line up when compared to Basel. Basel were also well known for missing countless chances before finally
finding the back of the net, if they lived up to their reputation on the night then they were without a doubt going to suffer at the hands of Cluj.
The match kicked off with both the teams going toe to toe from the very first minute. Cluj however looked like the better team on the night in the initial stages of the game.
However eight minutes later, it was Cluj who got the better of their opponents. Culio whipped in a wonderful corner and Rada rose the highest as he powered the ball into the back of the net giving the Romanian team the early lead on the night.
Four minutes later it was Cluj who struck once again. It was that man Culio once again who out muscled the Basel defense, before lofting in a pin point cross that Traore buried in the back of the net.
Things seemed to be going the home team’s way, however after the second goal Basel finally started to make a stand and were looking to create chances of their own.
In between of the half am intense midfield battle broke out that eventually led to some counter attacks and some fouls. That was continued by some professional plays on the flanks.
In the last minute of stoppage time in the first half, the away team finally got a goal back that ended up blowing the match wide open. Frei whipped in a brilliant corner with a lot of outward bend on it and Stocker guided the ball expertly into the back
of the net.
The teams went into the half time break knowing that the next goal would prove to be crucial.
