UEFA Champions League Match Report: Arsenal 2 vs 1 Borussia Dortmund – Part 1
Arsenal played host to Borussia Dortmund at the Emirates, in a Champions league clash between the two sides. Going into the game, the Gunners were well aware of the fact that if they managed to pick up just one point from the game, they would ensure their
qualification to the next round of the tournament.
However, given the way http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 were being treated by the media, the Gunners boss and the team were looking to settle for nothing less than a win, as they looked to bag all three points and end the group stages on top.
On the other hand, Dortmund desperately needed to pick up as many points as they could, in hopes of keeping their Champions League dreams alive as well.
After a rather evenly fought out opening few minutes, the Gunners finally got back into the game. The North London club started to stick together a number of brilliant passes and looked to be very threatening ever time they darted forward.
In the 21st minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Theo-Walcott-c34873. The winger darted forward and seemed to be on his way to a one on one situation with the Dortmund keeper.
However, Weidenfeller managed to come off his line swiftly and knocked the ball away to safety. Had his challenge been mistimed by even a second, he would have ended up conceding a penalty to the Gunners.
There was bad news for Dortmund on the 24th minute mark, as Bender was replaced by Moritz Leitner. Bender went down under a challange, but couldn’t manage to recover from the knock and as a result had to be taken off.
Things then went from bad to worse for the German side, as Mario Gotze seemed to be suffering from a knock as well. The talented midfielder eventually gave way and couldn’t continue to play anymore, as his injury refused to be shaken off. He was then taken
off in the 28th minute, as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ivan-c17215 Perisic came on to replace him in the Dortmund midfield.
Following the changes, Dortmund stuck to a partially defensive approach, as they looked to contain the Gunners attack, while trying to cope with the changes made to their team.
As a result, the first half ended with both sides trying to cope with the changes made to the game, but this just meant that everything was to play for in the second half of the game.
