UEFA Champions League Match Report: Benfica vs Manchester United – Part 1
Manchester Untied travelled to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984 to take on Benfica in their first match in the UEFA Champions League campaign. Going into the game United were believed to be taking the cautious approach, given that Benfica would have the home ground advantage and
could really do just about anything in the game.
On the other hand, Ferguson had admitted that he would be looking to use his more experienced players in the game, as opposed to relying on the youth once again.
The match kicked off with Benfica taking the game to Manchester United early on in the game.
In the 17th minute of the game, Gaitan went on to take a shot at the United goal. His effort was struck well, but lacked swerve and hence sailed wide of the mark.
In the 20th minute of the game, Aimar tired to play a ball towards Amrorim, only to see Evans make a crucial tackle. The ball then luckily fell towards Cardozo, whose effort sailed right into the arms of Lindegaard.
In the 24th minute of the game, a long ball was played towards Cardozo. The forward then went on to control the ball brilliantly and then rifled an effort into the back of the net. As a result Benfica took the lead in the game, with United desperately
looking to get in the game.
In the 42nd minute, just before the end of the first half, it was United’s most experience player who helped draw level in the game. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Giggs-c31985 went on to cut in from the right side of the pitch and sent a shot right into the top corner of the
goal. Due to the midfielders fine effort, United were now level with Benfica in the game.
Following the goal from Giggs, the referee blew his whistle to signal the end of the first half, with both the teams heading into the tunnel with the score tied at one all.
