The match kicked off with both teams going all out and trying to get the better of their opponents.
In the 3rd minute a goal for Leverkusen was disallowed as there seemed to be a foul in the build up to the goal.
Just a minute later, Chelsea had the ball in the back of the net at the other end of the pitch, but the referee went on to rule out the goal, as there was an offside called against Chelsea.
In the 10th minute of the game, Torres went on to receive a pass from Mata before rifling goal wards. The forwards shot was hit brilliantly, but was denied by Leno.
In the 32nd minute, Sturridge tired to maintain the form he showed at the weekend as he tried a goal from nearly thirty yards out. The strikers shot was hit brilliantly, but it just couldn’t beat the keeper, who held onto it comfortably.
The last chance of the first half fell to the head of Ivanovic, in the 45th minute of the game. The defender went on to meet a brilliant cross from Mata, but once again it was Leno who managed to produce a brilliant save on the line to deny Chelsea
from taking the lead in the game.
Soon after the referee blew the whistle to signal the end of the opening half of the game, with the score line tied at nil all.
Going into the tunnel, Chelsea seemed to be the more disappointed of the two teams, mainly due to the fact that they created far too many opportunities, but just couldn’t capitalize on all the chances they created.
