UEFA Champions League Match Report: Villarreal vs Manchester City – Part 1
Manchester City travelled to the El Madrigal stadium in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011, in order to take on Villarreal in the UEFA Champions League.
Going into the game, both City and Villarreal were looking to pick up the win, as they both desperately needed the three points.
City were looking to secure the win, in hopes of narrowing down the gap on Bayern Munich at the top of their Group. On the other hand, Villarreal, who were the lowest scoring team in Group A, desperately needed to pick up a win, in hopes of securing their
first points in this year’s Champions League.
Given the form that City had been displaying lately, they were hailed as the stronger side going into the game and were being favoured to pick up the win on the night.
The match kicked off in predictable fashion as City took the game to Villarreal. The English side were dominating the Spaniards and for the most part it looked like the game was being played at City’s home ground and not Villarreal’s.
In the 16th minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mario-Balotelli-c23937 went on to take out Perez with a very cynical tackle, as he caught his opponent with a very late kick. However, the referee seemed to not deem the tackle dangerous, as he waved the play to continue.
In the 18th minute, Joselu went on to attack the City defence, as he chased a long ball played by De Guzman. However, he just couldn’t control the lofted ball and failed to register a shot on target.
In the 30th minute of the game, City scored the first goal of the game, as they looked to settle their nerves and assert their dominance on the game.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Silva-c10601 went on to find Yaya Toure with a brilliant pass and the midfielder took a deft touch on the ball, before curling a fine shot into the far post.
In doing so, the midfielder scored his first goal of the season and City’s first goal in the game against Villarreal.
In the 38th minute, City seemed to be close to scoring another goal, as Silva went on to play a delightful pass across the face of the goal. Unfortunately for Silva and City, there was no player rushing in to knock the ball over the line and the
chance went begging.
Just before the end of the half, there was more drama on the pitch as City were awarded a very late penalty kick. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mateo-Musacchio-c24632 went on to take down Balotelli in the area and the referee had no option, but to point towards the penalty spot.
