UEFA Champions League News: Jermaine Jenas says the defeat to Inter at San Siro stimulated Hotspurs on
Tottenham won their last league match in an incredible fashion against Arsenal as they came back to record a 3-2 win after going two goals behind in the first 45 minutes of the North London derby. However, Jenas has come out and attributed the team’s fighting
spirit to their 4-3 defeat to Inter Milan earlier on in the season at San Siro. The match at San Siro ended in incredible fashion as three goals by Gareth Bale saw Tottenham almost climb back to level terms with Inter Milan after the Italian champions had
taken a four goal lead at their home stadium.
Nonetheless, Jenas described it as a catalyst as he said, "It was a bit of a catalyst. We didn't perform in the first half (against Inter Milan at San Siro), went down to 10 men and people wrote us off completely. But what we did in the second half was we
gave ourselves a mental victory with the way we performed. We had Inter on the ropes with 10 men at the San Siro. Not many teams will go and do that. And in doing that, we looked at ourselves and said, 'We can do anything if we're all at it'.
The Englishman added, "We've got to continue to use those things as tools and use them in a positive way. It's a long season. There will be ups and downs. It's the tightest league for ages and it's just a matter of stringing some wins together." Tottenham
now face Werder Bremen in their next UEFA Champions League encounter, a win would make Tottenham’s participation in the round of sixteen certain but it all remains to be seen how things will unfold at the White Hart Lane on Wednesday night.
Jenas is well aware of the hectic schedule that is coming up for Tottenham as the Christmas time approaches. He said, "Obviously with such a busy schedule coming up through Christmas, if we can get through Wednesday, it would be a bit of a weight off our
shoulders. We can put the Champions League aside a bit. It would be nice to go through and concentrate on the Premier League over Christmas."
Jenas has gained access to a first team place at Tottenham in recent times owing to the injury to Tom Huddlestone. Nonetheless, it has been a hard year for the English midfielder as he has been linked with other clubs. That is just part of the story as the
player has been plagues been with injuries for the past 12 months.
Jermaine said, "It's been a tough year with a lot of speculation about my future and injuries. I'm back to my best and my confidence is high. I want to maintain that now. There's definitely a lot of work to do to get back in the squad (England national team
squad). If I can get a run of games together and play at a consistent level then I'm pretty sure I'll feature in his plans again at some point."
