UEFA Champions League News: http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Samir-Nasri-c32360 a major doubt for the Barcelona clash
Arsene Wenger has admitted that Samir Nasri is a major doubt for Arsenal’s upcoming UEFA Champions league encounter against Barcelona in the round of sixteen stages.
Arsenal were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League last season by Barcelona after http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011.
Wenger will be hoping that the little Argentinean doesn’t run riot this time around but his hopes of securing a place in the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League have been put back due to an injury to Samir Nasri.
Nasri has been undoubtedly Arsenal’s best performer in the 2010-2011 Premier League season. The Frenchman has been instrumental in Arsenal’s title charge thus far as they find themselves just five points adrift of the table toppers,
Manchester United.
However, with Nasri’s fitness in serious doubt now, Wenger will have to bank on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jack-Wilshere-c17463 and Cesc Fabregas to play their hearts out against the Catalan giants in about two weeks time.
Wenger has constantly complained that his team faces serious injury difficulties in big matches but fans are beginning to question the wisdom in the decision to play Nasri in Arsenal’s fourth round F.A Cup tie against Huddersfield
Town.
Arsene has told the media that he took the decision to start with Nasri against Huddersfield Town due to Tomasz Rosicky’s fitness troubles. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Czech-Republic-c2882 international was down with a flu and thus Arsene decided to risk Nasri.
The gamble back fired unfortunately for the long standing Arsenal manager as Nasri sustained a hamstring injury during the match. Arsenal did eventually win the match and they are scheduled to play Leyton Orient in the fifth round
of the F.A Cup but Wenger has been given a serious headache due to Nasri’s hamstring trouble.
The ex-Monaco manager stated in his post match notes, “Nasri looks to have a serious hamstring injury. Usually it is three weeks. We have to see if it is a grade 1; it will be two weeks, so we will see. I now have regrets because
the plan was to play Rosicky, but he was still too weak because he was sick, so I took the gamble on Nasri. It backfired, but he could have come on and that happened as well. It is very difficult to predict. We are at the stage of the season where we play
so many games that to lose bodies is very difficult for us. But Samir is a big blow".
Arsenal play their next league match on Tuesday, 1st of February 2011 against Everton at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners will be hoping that they can gather all three points to keep within viewing distance of the English
league leaders Manchester United.
Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League encounter against Barcelona is scheduled to take place on 16th of February, 2011.
