The Bavarian giants thrashed the Swiss opposition to qualify for the quarter-final, winning 7-1 on aggregate.
Jupp Heynckes’ side demolished Basel with a 7-0 scoreline as Mario Gomez scored a staggering four times to lead his side to the last eight of the competition. Arjen Robben also scored in both halves whereas Thomas Muller found the net once as the home side secured a record knock-out round victory over the Swiss giants.

The visitors went on the back foot after the goal and Mario Gomez had two shots blocked by the keeper in the next few minutes as the home side continued to attack. Thomas Muller’s headed effort from a corner pulled another stunning save from Sommer at the 22nd minute mark.
Finally, the Reds doubled their lead three minutes from the interval as Muller got his eighth goal of the season in all competitions. It was a delightful finish from the midfielder as he thumped in another great cross from Robben to make it 2-0 for the former German champions.
It took another two minutes for the Bavarians to score their third of the night and it was a simple tap-in from Mario Gomez. Holger Badstuber put in a simple ball across for the German international as he found his first goal of the night. The Munich giants ended the first-half on a high and were leading 3-0.
