The Bavarian giants thrashed the Swiss opposition to qualify for the quarter-final, winning 7-1 on aggregate.
Jupp Heynckes’ side continued to run riot after the interval and scored their fourth goal just five minutes into the second period. In-form Gomez found the net for the second time in the match after Franck Ribery’s brilliant run from the left. The striker finished nicely after the Frenchman put in an excellent ball from the wing.
Ribery was again involved 11 minutes later as he beat two players on the left to put in a pin point cross for Gomez, who found the net with an easy header to complete his hat-trick and to make it 5-0. This was the German’s second hat-trick in a week after he scored three against Hoffenheim over the weekend.
The hosts continued to pile more misery on the Swiss team as they dominated the proceedings and created chance after chance. Gomez continued his stunning goalscoring form and scored his fourth goal of the game in the 67th minute to make it an embarrassing 6-0 scoreline for the visitors.
Ribery was again the supplier and another sensational run from the left wing resulted in a goal. The former Olympique Marseille man found Gomez inside the box and the forward did not score a simple tap-in this time. It was an excellent finish in the top right corner as the shot curled away from the keeper.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arjen-Robben-c6521 completed his brace and scored a sensational seventh for the Allianz Arena outfit in the dying moments of the match after rounding the keeper to put in a simple finish. It was the Dutchman’s fourth goal in two games after he scored a brace against Hoffenheim in Bayern’s 7-1 win over Markus Babbel’s side this past weekend.
It was a record victory for the former European champions as they completed the most comprehensive victory in the knock-out stage of the Champions League history to go through.
The win ended a long night for the Swiss side as they were unable to capitalise on their 1-0 lead from the first-leg. They were knocked-out of the competition with a 7-1 aggregate.
Bayern Munich may face the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604, AC Milan, Olympique Marseille, APOEL Nicosia, Benfica or the winners of the Chelsea-Napoli and Real Madrid-CSKA Moscow fixtures in the quarter-final. The draws for the last eight and semi-finals will be held on March 16.
