UEFA Champions league player ratings: Werder Bremen 3 – Inter Milan 0 (Part 1)

Italian side Internazionale took a trip to Germany in round 6 of the Champions League. The game was a dead rubber for the Germans but Inter Milan had a chance to go atop the group with a victory. However, it wasn’t a night to remember for Rafa Benitez as
his side were thumped 3 – 0 by the Germans.
Sebastian Prodl opened the scoring for the Germans in the first half before Marko Arnautovic and Claudio Pizarro extended the lead in the second half.
Bettor.com now analyses the players who took to the pitch.
Werder Bremen
Tim Wiese – 6
It was an unforeseen easy outing for the Bremen custodian who had absolutely nothing to do in the first half. Inter played better in the second half as Wiese was stretched from time to time. Wiese will have his goalpost to thank for a clean sheet as Pandev’s
chipped finish came off the post with the goalkeeper beaten.
Dominic Schmidt – 6.5
The wingback had a field day on the right flank as he frequently linked up with Marko Marin to superb effect. Also, Dominic supplied some dangerous crosses into the box which deserved better treatment from his forwards.
Per Mertesacker – 7
While he handled Samuel Eto’o with consummate ease, Mertesacker also had time to inflict damage on the opposite end of the pitch. The German international can consider himself extremely unlucky as Nerazzuri goal post denied him a rare goal.
Sebastian Prodl – 6
The defender might have scored on the opposite end but was given a rough time by Goran Pandev.
Petri Pasanen – 6
Pasansen was suspect defensively but a poor Inter Milan couldn’t take advantage of his slack positioning. However, having said that, the wingback galloped forward to good effect.
Clemens Fritz – 6.5
It was yet another steady performance from Fritz who was solid without being spectacular. Clemens played a big role in Bremen bossing the possession and that showed on the score line.
Aaron Hunt – 6.5
Hunt gave Inter backline a torrid time all night with his sizzling pace and sublime movement. For all his good work, Hunt did manage to miss an easy goal.
Torsten Frings – 7
Frings was the real star of the show in the middle of the park. Sprayed passes across the pitch with impressive consistency and also delivered a perfect cross for the Bremen opener.
Marko Arnautovic – 7.5
The Inter Milan reject showed his old employers just what they had missed on with a virtuoso performance. Arnautovic ran rings around Neazzurri rearguard all night long and a goal was nothing less than what he deserved.
Marko Marin – 8
Man of the match hands down, was this kid. The Inter Milan defence simply failed to cope up with Marin’s stunning pace and intelligent game play. Marin could have had five or six assists but his teammates let him down with finishing.
Hugo Almeida – 7
The Bremen front line was having a stunner and the same goes for Almeida. The Club favourite drifted wide constantly to good effect as his movement opened up space for his teammates.
Substitutes:
Mikael Silvestre – 5.5
Had 10 minutes to impress the manager but couldn’t muster anything of note.
Philipp Bargfrede – 5.5
Replaced a tiring Frings late into the night and had little time to make an impact.
Claudio Pizarro – 7
The Peruvian International has been a revelation ever since Chelsea dumped him and tonight was no different. Pizzaro was given just 15 minutes to impress and he scored a stunning goal after turning Esteban Cambiasso.
