UEFA Champions league player ratings: Werder Bremen 3 – Inter Milan 0 (Part 2)

Inter Milan
Paolo Orlandoni – 5
The youngster was given a rarer start but couldn’t do much to stop the Bremen onslaught. Even though he made some good stops, Orlandoni was far from impressive as he failed to command his area. However, the youngster cannot be blamed for any of the goals.
Javier Zanetti – 5.5
Zanetti has struggled to match the outstanding form he showed last season and his patchy form continued on the night. Il Capitano was beaten for pace by Almeida and Marin on several occasions as injury cut his night short.
Ivan Cordoba – 5
‘Jack in the box’ was played in his natural position by Rafa but the Colombian was far from his dominant self. Cordoba failed to cope with Bremen’s forwards movement while also deflecting Proedl’s header in for the first goal.
Esteban Cambiasso – 4.5
Inter Milan injury crisis meant Cambiasso had to play the emergency centre back position. The midfielder struggled to show any leadership as he frequently missed even the simplest of passes and clearances.
Cristiano Biraghi – 4.5
Yet another youngster who failed to perform when given the opportunity. The youngster had a Champions League debut to forget as he was frequently seen running back to help in defence rather take the game to Bremen rearguard.
Thiago Motta – 5
The Brazilian still looks rusty following a lengthy injury break. Benitez’s poor tactics meant Motta had to play just behind the forwards – a role he clearly isn’t born to play – and that showed on the result.
Nwankwo Obiorah – 5.5
Obiorah was one of the better Inter Milan players on the pitch but that isn’t saying much. The youngster looked comfortable on the ball but couldn’t make any telling contribution.
Davide Santon – 5
Rafa Benitez has played Santon in almost all positions and the rotation continued last night. Santon played as a right winger but did nothing to merit a regular first team spot. Benitez is destroying one of Italy’s best youngsters with his atrocious squad
rotation policy and Santon may look for a future elsewhere should such tactics continue.
Goran Pandev – 6.5
The Macedonian has been very disappointing this season but was the best Inter player on the pitch last season. With Samuel Eto’o woefully off colour, Pandev tried to take the game to Bremen all on his own but was unlucky twice as he saw his goal bound shots
deflect off the post.
Sulley Muntari – 4.5
It’s arguable whether the Ghana International is an Inter Milan player. Judging by the hopeless outing the attacker had last night, Muntari’s stay at San Siro is severely limited.
Samuel Eto’o – 5
The Cameroonian International has been a lone bright spot for Nerazzuri this season but the negative outlook finally seems to have gotten to the striker. A 25 yard shot was the closes Eto’o came to scoring as Nerazzurri looked for goals from elsewhere on
the pitch.
Substitutes:
Felice Natalino – 5
Replaced his injured captain in the second half and couldn’t match the pace of opposition attackers.
McDonald Mariga – 5.5
The Kenyan youngster returned from injury and was one of the better players on the pitch for Nerazzurri.
Jonathan Biabiany – 5.5
Biabiany replaced Santon in the second half and used his pace to good effect. However, he was on the periphery of action for large stretches of the game.
