In this exciting Europa league encounter, Manchester City faced a much talented Red Bull Salzburg side. City took the early lead thanks to Spanish winger David Silva. After some poor defensive header from Afolabi, Wayne Bridge picked up the ball on the left
wing, to cut it back inside towards Jo. The striker then presented the ball towards advancing Silva, who just couldn’t miss as he managed a low finish into goal. Salzburg defence was completely exploited by the sheer class in the Manchester City side, who
would be by taking the early lead.
On the 15th minute mark, Leitgeb tried to take a shot on goal but couldn’t clear the wall for the free kick. That led to a counter attack for the English side, as Wayne Bridge took the ball. The left back advanced towards the opposition’s six
yard box to find Tevez, but the Argentinean couldn’t reach the ball and only kicks air.
On the 20th minute, Leitgeb's first corner attempt hits Jo at the near post. The second corner seemed to almost creep under the bar but it's a trick of the sight-line and the ball was headed away by Yaya Toure. Schwegler then putted in a tasty
cross for Boghossian which, under pressure, the Red Bull striker headed wide!  On the 30th minute, Corner kick was awarded Salzburg as the ball dropped to Sekagya on the edge of the box. He took the ball well over but it dipped right at the end
and with Hart back-tracking the ball hit the top of the bar! Hart seemed to have it covered but that was almost a goal from the home side.
At the 35th minute, Bridge snuffed out a Salzburg attack, as he got across to challenge Zarate. After that Boghossian found Leitgeb, who crossed but Kolo Toure headed the ball over for a corner. Manchester City is now looking more and more vulnerable
but answered the attack with a wave of their own. With just three minutes remaining before half time, Jo tried a clever flick towards Tevez which was blocked but it dropped back towards the Brazilian. Jo then took the shot from long range but the keeper collected
it. At half time, Manchester City were in a comfortable lead, thanks to a single goal from David Silva. There is much more to come from this encounter as Manchester City would be hoping to at least hold on to this slender lead.
