Late strikes from Ola Toivonen and Georgino Wijnaldum in the second-half gave http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fred-c14136 Rutten’s men some hope of progressing in the UEFA Europa League.
In the first-leg of UEFA Europa League round of 16, Valencia cruised to an impressive 4-2 win over PSV Eindhoven at Mestalla Stadium on Thursday, March 8.
Los Che commenced proceedings in front of their home crowd brightly and looked better of the two sides. In the 11th minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Victor-Ruiz-c36094 managed to find the back of the net to make it 1-0. Pablo Hernandez’s cross at the back post found Ruiz unmarked,
and he made no mistake in heading home the opener.
Two minutes later, the home side doubled their advantage through http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-Soldado-c31367. Antonio Barragan’s neat pass found Soldado, who tapped in with ease to make it 2-0.
The hosts were dominating on the pitch and could have scored another inside 20 minutes of play. Jonas failed to meet http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Parejo’s corner on the far post, as the Eindhoven giants continued to live dangerously.
PSV came close to pulling one back but Tim Matavz headed wide of the target. Stanislav Manolev’s cross found the Slovenian ace unmarked at the near post, but he headed his effort inches wide of the target, much to the dismay of Fred Rutten.
In the 43rd minute, Los Che scored another to make the score-line 3-0. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jonas-c18967 inside the box and the referee awarded a penalty straight away. Soldado stepped up to take the spot-kick and made no mistake in hitting the
back of the net.
Eleven minutes after the half-time break, PSV’s hopes of making a comeback were totally dashed when Piatti fired his effort into the back of the net after receiving a pass from Parejo inside the box.
PSV goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andreas-Isaksson-c5736, then made a brilliant diving save to deny Jonas’ free-kick going into the back of the net.
With the time running out, the visiting side were clearly looking down and out, but the proceedings took a turn for good.
Jeremy Mathieu was penalised for bringing down Strootman in the area, and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ola-Toivonen-c28363 made no mistake in converting the resulting spot-kick in the 83rd minute.
Moments before the full time whistle, Georgino Wijnaldum managed to add another for the Dutch side from close range to make the score-line 4-2, giving the Eindhoven giants a glimmer of hope going into the second leg.
