UEFA launch Champions League Trophy Tour to promote football
The UEFA Champions League Trophy has a legacy that lures the best players in the world. It is also a massive crowd-puller for fans around the globe. The UEFA Champions League Trophy Tour was launched on Wednesday at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.
Heineken is the sponsor for the upcoming line-up of events for the football fans in Asia, before the League final in May.
The tour was launched with an official handing over of the celebrated trophy by Graeme Le Saux, the UEFA Champions League Trophy Tour Ambassador, and former England international to Marcel Desailly, the Heineken Ambassador. The Heineken brand activation
manager Hans Erik Tuijt and UEFA events SA CEO David Taylor were also present.
The trophy is destined to travel from the Geneva airport in February to Kuala Lumpur, and pass through Penang, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen and Seoul in March, reaching Hong Kong by the mid of April. The tour in Asia would end here with the silverware
returning in May to London for the league’s final at Wembley Stadium on 28th.
This will be the second tour to Asia after 2007 and is expected to be a good initiative to the promotion of football in the region. van Bronckhorst, Jay-Jay Okocha and Gianfranco Zola. They will be present at the events to add a spectacle for the fans and the media. The events give the fans the prospect of taking pictures with the brandished trophy, see famous UEFA Champions League souvenirs
and win tickets to the Champions League Final in London.
David Taylor commented on the tour saying that, “The trophy is so distinctive – it makes you think 'I'd love to win it'. It must be a dream comes true for many footballers to win it. Because it is competed for so fiercely by the top clubs, football fans
want to be close to it and have their picture taken with it. It brings the competition to life for fans who watch it in other countries."
Heineken will be able to increase its brand image popularity and increase the prospect of sales in Asia. Their brand manager presented his thoughts at the occasion saying, "The Champions League Trophy is the ultimate prize. If you go to Asia, people talk
about the Champions League, and I'm sure that the reaction will be great – we love to bring the Champions League to consumers wherever they are. Heineken are proud sponsors – sponsoring is about tapping into people's passion and we think that the trophy tour
