UEFA to launch investigation on Barcelona’s Sergio Busquets at the request of Real Madrid
It seems like Barcelona’s world cup winning holding midfielder, Sergio Busquets is going to be in a heap of trouble, should he be found guilty of committing acts of racism. Real Madrid have gone on to complain to UEFA that Busquets went on to call http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marcelo-c23554
a "mono" (monkey), during the team’s first-leg encounter in the UEFA Champions League on April 27th.
The match saw Barcelona beat their arch rivals, but was lined with its fair share of drama. Previously, no action was taken against any player following the conclusion of the game, but it seems like UEFA might just make an example out of the Spanish midfielder.
UEFA went on to release a statement issuing the problem and hand, which states: "Uefa has opened disciplinary proceedings against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergio-Busquets-c33048, who is alleged to have violated Article 11 bis of the Uefa Disciplinary Regulations
by directing racist abuse towards a Real Madrid CF player in the Uefa Champions League semi-final first-leg between the clubs on April 27.”
"The proceedings have been launched on the basis of evidence provided by Real Madrid [video and statement of club and player]. The Uefa Control and Disciplinary Body will deal with the case on Sunday, May 15 and the decision will be communicated to the club
on Monday, May 16."
Should Busquets be found guilty of his actions, then the player could go on to miss the Champions League final against Manchester United this season.
According to most footballing experts, it is high time that UEFA started to finally issue some sort of warnings and threats to players for their on-field antics. There have been countless occasions when players have gone on to be involved in acts of racism
and other forms of unethical behaviour during a football game, but have not once been told off.
Nonetheless, should UEFA go on to punish a player on a team like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604, then perhaps soon after players playing for lower placed teams might also get their act together.
At the moment it is quite unclear as to how long and/or what the ban on the player would be, but the fact that he might miss out on the finals of the Champions League, sounds like punishment enough to most. Many players consider playing in the finals of
the Champions League to be the epitome of their career, however, to have that opportunity taken from right under your nose due to your own stupidity, is bound to help anyone see the light.
As it stands, there is no confirmation to when UEFA would give their decision, but the governing body is scheduled to release some form of a statement within the coming week or so.
