UFC 117: Roy Nelson vs. Junior Dos Santos
The Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), commonly known as the combat sport is in full swing this year. MMA allows the players to show a wide variety of fighting techniques and expertises in the court. So far in 2010, there have been some amazing competitions with thrilling action and an array of entertainment.
One such exciting event is the UFC 117, which is scheduled in August at the Oracle Arena Oakland, California, United States. Along with other 18 contestants, Roy Nelson and Junior Dos Santos are the two best contenders of the game.
Roy Nelson, the 34 years old MMA fighter is a native of Las Vegas who has been often called stereo-type and over-age player. People picture him differently but he takes pride in calling himself a wolf in the sheep’s cloth. He denies the wrong assumption about him and demonstrates a confident personality. He may not have the six pack body built or colourful tattoos but he surely has the skill set and potential to fight with dignity.
Roy has declared that nobody should underestimate his abilities as a good fighter. Mixed Martial Arts fans are certainly aware of his style and skills. The 15-4 former International Fight League heavy weight champion is going to face Junior Dos Santos on August 7 at UFC. Both the players share a six-year MMA career and are considered the toughest opponents in the game.
Dos Santos is one of the best fighters of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and players normally avoid facing him in the ring.
Roy Nelson is confident to take on Dos Santos for the title shot. Nelson has said that he is not shy to step up in the competition and he will fight Don Santos whatever the circumstances are!
In the past, Roy has contested with the former UFC heavy weight champion Andrei Arlovski under EliteXC banner on a very short notice. He further explained that he had no urge to compete with Dos Santos but he would definitely relish the opportunity this time around. Roy has so much faith to beat his opponent and receive the promised title shot in the near future.
Roy Nelson has been after the title since the start of his first fight. He wanted to fight someone who had the belt but he was not eligible to fight the top spot players unless he had cleared the bottom stages. He started from the underside but he surely wanted a faster track to the top, due to the age limit restraints.
Nelson’s formula was successful and he rose from the bottom to the top. Since 2004, he won 15 titles to his name and he lost only four championships. He defeated Stefan Struve in the last UFC championship held in March this year. It took Nelson only 39 seconds to bring his authority to the game and he won the title.
Dos Santos is surely going to give him a hard time in the coming championship as he has knocked out some tough guys in the past. Junior Dos Santos has already beaten the other American Fabricio Werdum but Nelson said that he would likely give the 26-year-old dangerous Brazilian his best spell. Both the players are all set to win the title and make this fight a memorable combat.
In other news, Roy openly confessed that the previous championships which he lost were just due to his own weaknesses. He has reportedly worked very hard to over-come his flaws and he is assumed not to repeat the same mistakes in future.
The UFC fans are desperately waiting for the final show-down of these two great fighters which will conclude the best out of them.
