UFC 127 heads to Australia featuring Carlos Condit vs Chris Lytle
Sometimes the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
A day after calling out Chris “Light Out” Lytle, welterweight (170lb) mixed martial artist Carlos Condit has been assigned Lytle as his next opponent, according to
sportsnet.ca.
Condit had earlier said he’d like a fight with Jon Fitch, but then balked when given the opportunity, and set his eyes on a presumably less difficult opponent, like Lytle. All three men fight in the Ultimate
Fighting Championships.
Both these men are coming off of big wins. At UFC 120 in London, Condit scored a huge knockout against Dan Hardy, while Lytle outboxed Matt Serra over three rounds in his last fight to pick up a lopsided
decision.
A victory for either one of them should put them about one or two fights away from a shot at the welterweight title, currently held by Georges St-Pierre.
Originally, Sportsnet
reported the fight would take place at UFC 126, but on Thursday, 4 November the story developed, and
showdown.ca revealed that the fight would take place at UFC 127.
Mmafighting.com then went ahead to reveal even bigger news. UFC 127 will take place in Sydney, Australia on 27 February 2011, only the second UFC event to take place in Australia.
The first card to be held there was UFC 110, which featured a headlining match between Cain Velasquez and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, with Velasquez getting an early knockout. The event was a huge success for
the UFC, with a sold out arena with just under 18,000 in attendance, a record for a UFC event outside of North America. That event took place on 21 February 2010.
So far Lytle and Condit are the only two fighters booked for the card, but another likely candidate will the UFC’s only legitimate Australian fighter, George Sotiropoulos, who beat Joe Stevenson at UFC 110,
earning Fight of the Night honours for doing so.
