UFC 140 to feature Lyoto Machida and Jon Jones in an epic encounter – UFC News
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has announced one of their many fights for the upcoming UFC 140 event. Taking place in December 2011, the event will feature Lyoto Machida taking on Jon Jones.
UFC has decided that the Brazilian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Machida will take on the American MMA fighter Jon Jones in what is anticipated to be an epic encounter. Their bout will be for the Light Heavyweight Championship and will give the UFC and MMA fans a mixture of Brazilian and American fighting styles.
Their bout will be part of the main event when UFC 140 is held in Ontario at the Air Canada Centre. Machida, the 33-year old Brazilian fighter, nicknamed The Dragon, will be eager to take on the 24-year old Jones, nicknamed Bones. The main event on the card at UFC 140 will become something of a slugfest as both are in the prime of their fighting careers. They would certainly make sure that UFC 140 becomes the highlight event of their career. Both fighters would be willing to use UFC 140 as the base to propel their careers into higher orbit.
Machida has been eager to face Jones the moment their bout was announced by the UFC. The Brazilian expressed his views to face Jones by saying “I can overcome his athleticism with my technique.” The fight inside the UFC octagon fight ring between Machida and Jones will be something the fans have been expecting to see and the UFC management finally gave the fans what they deserved. Keeping in mind the intense nature of the bout itself, Machida has hired a legend to train him with his fight.
The Brazilian is getting training from Muhammad Lawal nicknamed King Mo ahead of UFC 140. Machida knows that going against Jones would be one of the brawny fights; he has to be in top form, both mentally and physically. What Machida seeks from Lawal, is to train him with his offensive tactics, as he would need to use them against Jones, who is more of an attacking fighter himself.
Jones, on the other hand, is focused for the fight and intends to get a first round knockout over Machida. That is not what the fans would want either, as their bout is considered to be one to remember. Reports were also pouring in that Machida has undergone intensive training from and gained around twenty-five pounds.
