UFC 142 set for January 2012, Brazilian fighters will dominate the fight card – UFC News
The year 2012 will begin with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) going to Brazil for UFC 142. The event is scheduled to take place on January 14, 2012 in Rio de Janeiro.
After a long wait, the fight card has been completed with some new matches and some fights being termed as rematches. According to reports, all injured fighters have also been replaced by their appropriate replacement which has kept matchmakers and UFC officials
quite busy over the past few months.
The featherweight championship fight is scheduled for the main card. It will be between the Brazilian MMA fighter Jose Aldo defending his championship against American MMA fighter Chad Mendes. It is interesting to note that Brazilian MMA fighters are filled
in both the main card and preliminary card of the event. Brazilian fighters with the likes of Vitor Belfort, Rousimar Palhares, Erick Silva and Edson Barboza are booked for their respective matches in the main card. It has also been reported that the featherweight
title bout between Aldo and Mendes is the only title match in the event and the rest of the fights are non-title brawls.
In the preliminary card, the fighters from Brazil include Thiago Tavares, Gabriel Gonzaga, Ednaldo Oliveira, Yuri Alcantara, Ricardo Funch, Fabio Maldonado, and Felipe Arantes. It is expected that all Brazilian fighters will give a spirited show as they
will be fighting ion home soil and supported by their home crowd. According to critics, the American, British and Canadian fighters will find UFC 142 a challenging event for they will be outnumbered by Brazilian opponents.
During the course of booking fights, UFC officials and management were blasted with numerous injuries, which made it difficult for them to complete the fight card and last minute replacements were required, giving them an extra load of work to handle. The
injured fighters who have been scrapped from UFC 142 include Siyar Bahadurzada, Paulo Thiago and Stanislav Nedkov. With the final form of the match card ready, UFC officials hope fight schedules will remain the same and they will not be haunted with any more
injuries. UFC 142 will be a great event where fans and management alike hope that UFC will make an impact in January 2012.
