UFC 150 Results: Ben Henderson defeats Frankie Edgar via split decision – UFC News
American mixed martial artist Ben ‘Smooth’ Henderson successfully defended his UFC lightweight championship against Frankie ‘The Answer’ Edgar at UFC 150 past Saturday.
Henderson (16-2, 4-0 UFC) strived hard throughout the bout to knock Edgar (14-2-1, 9-2-1 UFC) out, but to his dismay, all he could do was to win via split decision.
There were several highlights of the match that made it an exciting watch. Round one started with Henderson’s dominance until a kick from Edgar that was counted as an illegal low blow stopped Henderson. This was the moment when Referee Herb Dean tried to
give the champion some time out but he bounced back to fight. The Smooth worked on Edgar’s calves through the first round with his kicks. Round one also had Edgar hitting the mat hard by a vicious kick from the champion.
Round one ended with 10-9 for Henderson.
Round two started with the same action but at a slower pace. Henderson kept up with his kicks to Edgar’s calves and yet again knocked the challenger out. By this time, Edgar’s legs had had enough, they were swollen and stiff. Luckily, Edgar was able to block
a huge kick from Henderson right on his leg but Henderson immediately shot him with an outside kick. Edgar locked Henderson in a headlock but the champion was able to defend it and work out of it.
Round two ended with Henderson’s body kick to Edgar. Edgar was the man of round two, with scores 10-9.
Round three was tough, as both fighters were playing defensive unlike the first two rounds where they were in the attacking mode. Edgar started the shots to Henderson’s body while the champion pursued his technique of damaging Edgar’s legs. Both fighters
were exchanging punches but they were hardly landing. Edgar landed a couple of body kicks to win the third round with a score of 10-9.
Round four yet again started with kicks from Henderson and clinches from Edgar. Henderson made a comeback to his game, with outside kicks to Edgar’s legs. The round ended 10-9 for Edgar, disappointing the champion.
Round five was crucial and so Henderson switched from mere leg shots to huge right hooks. The crowd was chanting ‘Frankie! Frankie!’ but that did not pressurise the champion. The round ends with a failed head kick attempt by Edgar.
It was a close fight but eventually the judges decided to score it for Henderson. The final scores remained 49-46 Edgar, 48-47 Henderson, and 48-47. Therefore, winner of the showdown and still the UFC lightweight champion was Benson Henderson.
