UFC CEO Dana White introduces 125-pound flyweight category – UFC News
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has been in the hunt to improvise the fights and create excitement for its fans. The same initiative has been taken by UFC managements as the CEO of UFC, Dana White, announced the introduction
of a new weight category. According to reports, White has announced that UFC will be going to an even lighter level. The UFC will be starting a 125 lbs (pound) flyweight category. This will give UFC a chance to get a wide array of fighters as the weight has
been reduced.
For a long time it has been rumoured that UFC would be creating more weight divisions but no news was coming from the UFC. It was on December 8, 2011 that the first news regarding such rumours emerged. White confirmed that UFC
certainly has created a new division. The details of this category would be announced in the coming days. After making the 125-pound flyweight division, the UFC has created an eighth weight division in the promotion.
White made the formal announcement after the press conference he had held in relation to the UFC on FOX 2 event scheduled for March 2012. What made White go for a lighter weight class in the UFC was the fact that other lightweight
categories had been successful in the recent past.
At The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 14 was the event when UFC did some experimentation. They had a bantamweight division with a weight category of 135-pound. Moreover, UFC also had a featherweight category with a 145-pound weight limit
at TUF 14. After the success of TUF 14, White went on with the decision. He was certain that the new 125-pound weight category would be a successful move in the UFC. According to sources, White gives the credit to TUF 14 for helping him take this decision.
White has been excited for the introduction of a new weight category in the UFC. He and his team has been working on the new weight prospects for months. White said, "If anything proved how awesome the small guys are it was this
season of 'The Ultimate Fighter. How about the finale? The finale was incredible. Diego's (fight) was probably the best one-round fight I've ever seen, and Dodson was just incredible." He further said, "I have a feeling that 125-pound division is going to
be as talented as 155 and 170. At 125 pounds, I think you're going to see a lot of Hispanic and Asian fighters now coming to come compete at that weight."
