UFC announces Roy Nelson vs Fabricio Werdum for UFC 143 – UFC News
On February 4, 2012, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will hold UFC 143. The event is scheduled to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada. Among the fights which have been booked for the night, the UFC management confirmed that
Roy Nelson will be facing Fabricio Werdum at UFC 143.
According to reports coming from the UFC officials, it has been confirmed that Werdum would be making his return back into the UFC after he left the promotion in 2008 and started fighting for Strikeforce.
The American mixed martial art (MMA) fighter Nelson will have his hands full against Brazilian MMA fighter Werdum. Both fighters, part of the heavyweight division, will be fighting a heavyweight bout in an attempt to increase their
winning statistics.
Nelson, who did not have a good run in the UFC, would be looking at UFC 143 as the fight where he would prove his worth as a MMA fighter. While fighting for the UFC, he took part in five fights but could win three bouts. He faced
two straight defeats by the hands of Junior dos Santos at UFC 117 in August 2010 followed by a loss against Frank Mir at UFC 130 in May 2011. Nelson would certainly use his UFC 143 bout as a leverage to improve his standings in the UFC and improve his MMA
statistics.
On the other hand, Werdum fought in the UFC from April 2007 to October 2008. He fought at UFC 70, UFC 80, UFC 85 and UFC 90. Out of the four fights he was part in UFC, he could manage to win only two of them. He left the UFC in
2008 and started fighting for Strikeforce. After a gap of more than three years, Werdum would be stepping back inside the UFC octagon fighting ring with a hope to get a win to gain momentum in his UFC career.
Werdum, who began his MMA professional career in 2002, has won fourteen fights, lost five and only one of his bout ended in a draw. For Nelson, the winning ratio is better with sixteen professional wins ever since he made his MMA
debut in 2004, but he has lost six fights, which might be a cause of concern for him.
