  1. Carlos gave the right answer.  And I believe Joe Silva is still the UFC matchmaker, not Dana White, but I could be wrong.

  2. To add on this Question.. So GSP & FITCH fight was a fight for GSP's title?  i didn't see the fight, just got results, excuse my ignorance.

  3. if you are the champ .. all you matches dont have to be for the title. The main determining factor is Dana White ..he runs the UFC as he sees fit .

  4. im pretty sure every fight with the champion is a title match.

how well u fight, wins over big guys,  and what dana thinks of u gives u championship fight

  5. Not all fights have to be for your championship. In fact if your opponent does not make weight a title match automatically becomes a non-title fight.

  6. if the champion fights in the weight class that the belt is in and the opponent is of the same weight class then it would be a belt fight. dana white determines championship matches probably based on viewer popular fighters

  7. A UFC champ always fights for the title, unless the person he fights dosnt make weight, and you get a title shot by beating people until your the top contender, this might be wright away or even take years.

  8. If you are a UFC champion, any fight in your weight class would be for the title unless your opponent does not make weight.

Matt Hughes (then Welterweight Champion) fought both Royce Gracie and Joe Riggs in non-title matches during his title reign.  The Gracie fight was not in the Welterweight division, but instead was fought at a catch weight of 175 pounds, so Hughes' belt was not on the line.  Riggs didn't make weight, so he lost his title shot.

Anderson Silva has also had two non-title matches since winning the Middleweight title.  The first was against Travis Lutter, who failed to make weight, and the other was his last bout with James Irvin, which was fought in the Light Heavyweight division.

As far as who gets a title shot, a variety of factors come into play.  First and foremost is a fighter's performance in the Octagon.  However, the marketability of a fighter is also taken into consideration when determining title fights.

  9. in order to get a title shot you got to be impressive ad not lose.
