UFC confirms Cheick Kongo and Mark Hunt bout at UFC 144 – UFC News
Two goliaths in the mixed martial arts (MMA) division would go head-to-head at UFC 144. The event hosted by the Ultimate Fighting Championships will feature French MMA fighter Cheick Kongo go against New Zealand’s Mark Hunt. The reports of their bout at UFC 144 next year, confirmed by the UFC management, gave the UFC and MMA fans news to cherish. Kongo also confirmed by his statement on social media stating that "Yes it's official now, I'm gonna fight Mark Hunt at UFC 144 in Japan."
For the 36-year old Kongo, this will be his first time in a UFC event in Japan. He has been in the MMA division since 2001 but has never taken part in any event hosted in Japan. He is excited to fight in Japan and that too against an able competitor with the likes of Mark Hunt. The UFC 144 event will take place at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan on February 26, 2012. Both players have had a good run with their MMA fights in 2011.
Mark Hunt won both of his fights in 2011. He defeated Chris Tuchscherer through knockout punches at UFC 127 in February 2011. He later won the fight at UFC 135 in September 2011 against Ben Rothwell. For Kongo, his wins in this year were also great. Kongo defeated Pat Barry in June 2011 at the UFC Live Event. At UFC 137 held in October 2011, he defeated Matt Mitrione through a unanimous decision.
UFC fans would be eager to watch the two fighters take on their aggression over each other at UFC 144. The Japanese fans, too, would be looking forward to witness two of the big names in the UFC circuit bring the fight to Japan. Kongo, who stands at 6ft 1in, would have a higher chance to score a win for he overshadows his opponent both in terms of height and wins. Hunt measures at 5ft 10in and would have a clear disadvantage with his height.
On the other hand, Kongo has won twenty-seven fights in his MMA career with six loses and two fights ending in a draw. Hunt has won only seven fights in his career with seven loses and no bout ending in a draw. Kongo would have a huge edge over Hunt and could make a serious impact in his bout at UFC 144.
